NatureWind Studio | The Japanese electric fan that delivers a natural breeze – BALMUDA USA

in the outside

A gentle breeze can change everything. It softens the air, clears the mind, and brings a quiet sense of ease to the room. The kind of comfort you don’t have to think about, but always feel.

NatureWind Studio was created to bring that feeling into everyday life. Its patented double structured blades send air in wide, natural layers, from a soft whisper to full circulation. It feels more like wind through an open window than a mechanical breeze. It follows you gently, whether you are resting, focusing, or simply being.

Bring the outside in.

Q: What are the airflow settings?
A: The airflow increases step by step from Wind speed 1 to Wind speed 4, with Jet Mode providing the maximum airflow. Press and hold the airflow button (for 1 second or longer) to activate Jet Mode. Jet Mode can be used without any time limit.
Q: Can the leg length be changed?
A: To make it a convenient tool for a more comfortable lifestyle, we adopted a tripod design without a base so it is easy to move and can be placed anywhere quickly. The tripod legs cannot be adjusted in length, but they can be detached.
Q: Does it have an auto-off function?
A: The power turns off automatically after 18 hours of continuous use.

the journey to naturewind studio

Fifteen years after inventing our first electric fan rising heat and shifting air quality inspired a new idea — an all-season fan designed to move air freely and create calm, comfortable spaces.

Gen Terao, CEO and Chief Designer, BALMUDA

memories of a summer breeze

I was in third grade when a friend’s house got its first air conditioner. At first, the cool air amazed us, but we soon grew restless. We couldn’t catch beetles or crayfish indoors, so we ran outside, chased fish in the stream, explored ruins, and played until drenched in sweat. The gust of wind as we crept toward a tree, the refreshing breeze riding my bike down a hill — those sensations stayed with me.

That memory became the inspiration for our first electric fan, a fan designed to recreate the carefree summer wind and fix the frustrations of traditional fans.

natural wind has no vortices

I imagined what it would feel like if that wind could fill an entire room. In 2009, I began measuring the difference between natural wind and fan wind. I discovered that fan wind rotates as it moves, unlike natural wind, which flows smoothly. Could this vortex be removed? If so, a fan could create a gentle, refreshing breeze that feels like air through an open window. And so the trial and error began.

an unexpected clue

Measurements revealed the problem: conventional fan airflow spins as it travels — full of vortices. Natural wind moves in flat, open layers. To recreate it, the vortices had to go.

The answer came from the most unexpected place. Watching a TV program, I saw thirty children in a long three-legged race, their feet tied together. The faster runners couldn’t surge ahead — held back by the slower ones beside them. Eventually, the line collapsed in their struggle. Suddenly, it clicked: perhaps wind could behave the same way. The clue to wide, gentle airflow had been hiding in plain sight.

air, reimagined

The original BALMUDA’s fan was a perfected, traditional fan. So why create something new? Because the way people use air at home had changed.

Once, fans were simple: stand in front, cool down. But times shifted. Hotter summers, worsening air quality, pollen — we opened windows less. Air conditioning grew more efficient, and habits changed with it.

Today, a fan is more than a cooling device. It circulates air to improve heating and cooling. It provides portable ventilation wherever it’s needed. What was once a seasonal tool now belongs to every season, in every room. NatureWind Studio was built for that world.

evolved for modern living

NatureWind Studio updates BALMUDA’s fan for modern life, bringing wide, abundant airflow with greater ease. Its design is inspired by tools in studios and creative spaces. The tripod base makes placement simple, while refined metal legs combine strength with a light, airy presence. A three-meter cable extends use while draping elegantly over the unit. Thoughtful proportions and subtle textures turn it into modern furniture that circulates air gently and enhances everyday comfort.
